Why Choose a Roadwarrior Construction DPF?
Roadwarrior has the largest aftermarket catalogue in the aftertreatment industry. We’re also the only aftermarket company to make DPFs for construction machinery, which we stock in our Pennsylvania warehouse! Our DPFs combine a high-efficiency metal substrate and a proprietary Metalcor catalyst coating, which we get from our parent company DCL International. This advanced Metalcor technology allows construction DPFs like D2012-SA to achieve the highest levels of emissions control and energy efficiency!
What Kind of Construction Equipment Requires Tier 4 Emissions Control?
Due to high power demands, the majority of construction machinery uses diesel. So much in fact that according to the Diesel Technology Forum, construction accounts for 55% of U.S off-road fuel use! To mitigate the environmental impact, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) introduced mandatory Tier 4 standards for all new off-highway diesel engines and heavy equipment sold from 2014 onwards. This regulation mandates the use of emissions control devices like DPFs in all new construction equipment. This in turn boosts fuel efficiency and improves air quality on construction sites, protecting workers from breathing in toxic exhaust.
What Do I Need to Know About John Deere DPFs?
John Deere is a well-respected engine and machinery manufacturer, specializing in construction, forestry, and agriculture. Their construction offering includes dozers, excavators, crawler loaders, tractor loaders, wheel loaders, articulated dump trucks, and more! John Deere started introducing DPFs like RE567689 and RE568454 in their machinery in 2011. By the time the Tier 4 standards came in, their machinery was fully compliant.
John Deere construction DPFs are tough and reliable, but regular exposure to sooty exhaust means they deteriorate faster than the equipment they’re used in. This is where Roadwarrior comes in! Roadwarrior’s D2012-SA DPF lets you raise your quotas and crush your deadlines without the fear of aftertreatment failure! You can order through your local distributor, on our website, or by calling our sales team on 1-877-897-9759.
What is a Construction DPF?
The exhaust from diesel-powered construction equipment includes soot and particulate matter (PM). Instead of being released into construction sites, this toxic gas passes through catalytic filters like DPFs to clean it. However, the filter has to clean itself regularly to prevent soot accumulating and clogging it.
On-highway machinery like semi trucks reach higher speeds and hence generate hot enough exhaust gas to burn away the soot which causes passive regeneration (regens). If this fails, the truck injects a small amount of fuel into the exhaust before the DPF to raise the temperature more this is active regeneration. Most off-highway construction engines rarely get hot enough for passive regens and have to rely solely on active regens!
What are the Most Common Causes of RE567689 John Deere DPF Failure?
John Deere DPFs are durable, but usually need to be replaced during your machine’s working life. How long they last partially depends on how well you look after them. For example, after 3,000-4,000 hours in typical construction machinery, and 250,000 – 500,000 miles in semi trucks, the DPF becomes too clogged with soot to regenerate. At this point you’ll need to remove it for cleaning. This can take several days, but significantly extends the life of your DPF and engine! If you keep operating with a clogged DPF, the exhaust won’t be able to pass through, creating significant backpressure. If this pressure cracks the DPF it will need to be replaced rather than cleaned.
A John Deere construction DPF like RE567689 or RE568454 can also be damaged by oil and coolant leaks and upstream engine issues. If this happens, your machine will trigger a DTC to let you know. If your DPF is beyond repair and you need a quicker fix, why not consider a Roadwarrior replacement like D2012-SA?
