Why is Roadwarrior’s D2048-FL a Good Choice?
For one, because our aftermarket catalogue is the largest in the HD aftertreatment industry, with over 1,000 DPF, DOC and SCR models on offer, alongside EGR coolers, NOx sensors, DEF dosers and more! We’re also the only aftermarket company to make DPFs for construction machinery, like your Komatsu dozer or excavator. For customer convenience, we store construction parts like D2048-FL in our Pennsylvania warehouse.
On top of this, Roadwarrior engineers batch-test D2048-FL parts to ensure they’re compatible with your Komatsu engine. Our tests also confirm that our parts achieve optimal temperature, backpressure, and regen performance levels. This is possible because of the Metalcor catalyst technology that our parent company DCL International developed. By enabling passive regens at much lower temperatures, Metalcor reduces active regens and cuts fuel spending! The Metalcor technology in our DOCs reinforces this effect and helps prevent DPF clogging. In a combined DOC and DPF like D2048-FL, Metalcor optimizes emissions reduction and energy efficiency!
What is a C6527-01-0010 Komatsu Combined DOC and DPF?
Many modern construction machines include a DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst) and DPF (diesel particulate filter) to filter toxic emissions. Komatsu’s C6527-01-0010 and its Roadwarrior equivalent D2048-FL are a combination of the two parts. The DOC comes first, oxidizing hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and unburned fuel and oil in the exhaust stream. The exhaust then passes through the DPF, which removes up to 98% of particulate matter and soot. Some construction equipment also includes EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) and SCR (selective catalytic reduction) to filter out other harmful elements like NOx particles.
What Kind of Construction Equipment Requires Tier 4 Emissions Control?
Komatsu construction equipment requires a lot of power, and this usually comes from diesel engines! According to the Diesel Technology Forum, construction equipment like your Komatsu forklift actually accounts for 55% of off-road fuel use in the U.S. However, this large-scale diesel use produces a lot of exhaust gas! To reduce the environmental fallout, the EPA introduced compulsory Tier 4 standards for new off-highway heavy equipment sold from 2014. The result is that machinery manufacturers have to include emissions control parts like C6527-01-0010 in construction equipment with engines above a certain size. This drives improvements in fuel efficiency and reduces toxic emissions on jobsites! Since the EU introduced Stage V regulations in 2018, there’s also been talk of Tier 5 emissions control in the U.S.A. Any new EPA regulations would likely extend aftertreatment regulations to a wider range of off-road machinery.
An Ashy Problem for Your Komatsu C6527-01-0010
Many things can damage a DPF, including pressure and restricted exhaust flow from a clogged DOC. However, the most common cause of DPF failure in Komatsu construction equipment is ash build-up. Regens clean the DPF by burning away the built-up soot with hot exhaust, but they leave behind a small ash residue. The ash accumulates over time, blocking the DPF and causing pressure to build up. To prevent this becoming an issue, we recommend a professional DPF clean after around 3,000–4,000 hours of runtime. Combined with regular regens, this can significantly extend the life of your Komatsu DPF and engine. You should also replace your combined DPF and DOC (C6527-01-0010) when it fails! Replacing a faulty DPF with a reliable equivalent like D2048-FL will prevent it cracking under pressure and risking an engine derate.
DPF blockages are exacerbated by changes to the air-fuel balance in the exhaust. This is often caused by dirty air filters limiting clean airflow into the engine’s combustion chamber, or faulty fuel injectors letting the engine burn over-rich fuel. A similar problem is caused by air leaks in the intake or exhaust. These imbalances cause the engine to generate more soot and for ash to collect even faster on the DPF!
Trouble with Leaks: Protecting Your Combined DOC and DPF (C6527-01-0010)
Komatsu DOC and DPF combinations like C6527-01-0010 can be damaged by oil or coolant leaking into the exhaust and emissions system! Coolant usually protects the engine by moving heat and adsorbing extreme temperatures. However, if a coolant tank leaks and coolant escapes into the exhaust, it can reach the DOC and DPF, causing highly damaging hydrocarbon poisoning! At this point you’ll need to replace your DOC+DPF combo with a new part like Roadwarrior’s D2048-FL.
