What is LightningVolt™?
LightningVolt™ lithium batteries are a high-performance upgrade for marine equipment, from trolling motors and shallow water anchors, to fish finders and depth finders. They are Group 31 size, so are also suitable for RVs and golf carts. The LightningVolt™ design was developed to handle the vibration, shocks and extreme conditions of commercial trucks, then adapted for marine applications. These deep-cycle lithium batteries come in a waterproof casing that’s been tested in saltwater and freshwater conditions. LightningVolt™ also includes a battery management system to prevent overcurrent or overcharge. This extends the battery life and ensures a consistent performance even in extreme temperatures!
So, Why LightningVolt™?
Most serious fishing equipment is electrical, and it’s important to have enough battery to power your gear! That’s why ambitious anglers wanting to spend all day on the water, join in competitions, or use any real power need lithium marine batteries. 100AH LiFePO4 batteries like LightningVolt™ have double the usable power of AGM alternatives. This is because the deep-cycle lithium design lets you safely access 95% of the stored power, whereas discharging an AGM battery more than 50% will damage it.
LightningVolt™ batteries don’t just last longer on the water, they have a 10× longer overall lifespan than AGM marine batteries. This is because they’re capable of 2,000 charge cycles at 95% depth of discharge and over 4,000 at 50%. In contrast, an AGM battery can handle 200-400 charge cycles before being replaced. This makes lithium marine batteries a good investment for serious anglers, as 1 LightningVolt™ can save you from replacing 10 AGM batteries!
What Are Lithium Marine Batteries Good For?
Lithium batteries are great for most fishing applications, from trolling motors, shallow water anchors, fish finders and depth finders, to ice fishing fish finders and flashers. As well as larger boats, lightweight LightningVolt™ batteries are a good choice for small fishing boats like skiffs, bass and bay boats, and light watercraft like inflatable boats, canoes and kayaks.
Why are Lithium Batteries The Best Choice for Trolling Motors?
By propelling your boat at consistent speeds while you trail lures and bait hooks, a trolling motor lets you easily hook game fish like salmon, mackerel, and kingfish. But spending all day on the water requires a consistent flow of power. Deep-discharge lithium batteries provide the power you need, doubling the runtime of your trolling motor! LightningVolt™ also discharges at a consistent voltage down to 5%, so you won’t see reduced performance if your battery levels are running low. A lithium battery gives you the power to stay out on the water until the hold is full or the sun goes down! As an added bonus, lithium batteries are much lighter—while AGM batteries weigh 60lb-70lbs, LightningVolt™ batteries come in at 24.9lbs. This frees up weight for a larger catch, or more angling accessories, and reduces pressure on the engine. This is helpful in lighter vessels like bay and bass boats, canoes and skiffs, where small weight savings have a big impact!
Why Choose Lithium for Your Fish Finder and Depth Finder Batteries?
By providing a basic depth measurement, a depth finder helps you pinpoint the perfect spot for your catch of choice. A fish finder provides much more detail, giving out pulses of sound and translating the reflected sound waves into a clear graphic display of nearby fish and underwater objects. Fish finders are popular with advanced anglers looking for big shoals, or specific types of fish.
With double the runtime between charges, a lithium marine battery is a good way to power your fish finder and depth finder. If you’re having trouble finding well-stocked areas, or you’re on the hunt for a rare variety of fish, the long battery life will give you the best chance at that elusive catch! If you fancy a last-minute fishing trip, LightningVolt™ lithium batteries have a speed-charging function and are fully charged in less than half the time a traditional battery takes. With zero self-discharge, a lithium marine battery will also store charge very efficiently when not in use. This means the battery won’t run flat or be damaged if you decide to store your fish finder for the winter!
Why Is LightningVolt™ Well-Suited to Ice Fishing?
Ice fishing is a time-honoured American pastime, but the introduction of electronics revolutionised the sport. With sonar, GPS, ice fishing fish finders, depth finders, and flashers, you can pinpoint the best spots, find the largest shoals, and target the biggest fish. Ice fishing depth finders and fish finders have built-in mechanisms to prevent them from freezing. But battery-powered accessories still struggle with the cold, so it’s important to choose high-quality products and batteries designed for extreme conditions.
The design for our 100AH LightningVolt™ batteries was inspired by the cold Canadian winters and they far outperform AGM batteries, even below freezing. For ease of handling out on the ice, LightningVolt™ batteries are a lightweight build, coming in at 24.9lbs, compared to the 60lb-70lbs of an AGM equivalent. They also have almost no self-discharge and can safely be stored without the battery life deteriorating. This is important because ice fishing is a seasonal pastime, and your equipment may need to be stored over the summer.
Why Are Lithium Batteries a Sturdy Choice for Shallow-Water Anchors?
Whether you’re freshwater or saltwater fishing, a shallow-water anchor lets you stay in a precise spot, without the boat spinning in the breeze or drifting with the current. For optimum precision, serious anglers invest in two pole anchors, one for each end of the boat. Saltwater fishermen tend to choose strong, sturdy anchors like the Power Pole, which has claw-like spikes to grip rock or the sandy seafloor. Freshwater fishermen often prefer longer, lighter poles that are easy to transfer between boats, like the Minn Kota shallow-water anchor. Either way, it’s vital to have enough battery power! LightningVolt™ batteries are tested in saltwater and freshwater conditions and are tough enough to withstand the jolts and vibration as the boat moves between fishing spots. They can be mounted in almost any position and the special lightweight design means they can be easily transferred between boats.
