Construction DPFs like D2066-SA combine a high-efficiency metal substrate and a Metalcor catalytic coating to achieve exceptionally high levels of emissions control and energy efficiency. Along with industry-leading catalytic research, access to Metalcor is one of the benefits of our ties to DCL International.

What Kind of Construction Equipment Requires Emissions Control? (Tier 4)

Due to high power demands, the majority of construction machinery runs on diesel. According to the Diesel Technology Forum, construction accounts for as much as 55% of U.S. off-road fuel use! To mitigate the environmental impact, the EPA brought in mandatory Tier 4 standards for all new off-highway diesel engines and heavy equipment sold from 2014. The inclusion of emissions control devices like DPFs in all new construction equipment has the added benefit of boosting fuel efficiency and preventing construction workers inhaling toxic fumes on-site.

What Should You Know About John Deere DPFs?"The

John Deere is a well-respected engine and machinery manufacturer, specializing in construction, forestry, and agriculture. Their construction offering includes dozers, excavators, articulated dump trucks, crawler loaders, tractor loaders, wheel loaders, and more! John Deere began phasing in DPFs like RE541179 and RE541834 in 2011. By the time Tier 4 standards came into play, their machinery was fully compliant! They’ve since upgraded their systems multiple times in line with changing emissions regulations.

John Deere construction DPFs are tough and reliable, but regular exposure to sooty exhaust means they deteriorate faster than the equipment they’re used in. This is where Roadwarrior comes in! Our D2066-SA is an exact-fit replacement for John Deere construction DPFs RE541179 and RE541834. A Roadwarrior DPF lets you hit your quotas and crush your deadlines without the fear of aftertreatment failure! You can order through your local distributor, on our website or by calling our sales team on 1-877-897-9759.

What is a Construction DPF?

The exhaust from diesel-powered construction equipment includes soot and particulate matter (PM). Instead of releasing this toxic matter into the air on construction sites, the exhaust is filtered and cleaned by aftertreatment filters like DPFs. However, soot accumulates in the filter over time, and it has to regenerate to avoid becoming blocked.

On-highway machinery like semitrucks drive fast enough for long enough stretches to use passive regeneration (regens), burning through the soot with the heat of the exhaust. If this isn’t enough, the truck injects a small amount of fuel into the pre-DPF exhaust to raise the temperature more – this is an active regen. Most off-highway construction machinery rarely gets hot enough for passive regens and relies on active regens.

What Causes RE541179 John Deere Construction DPFs to Fail?

John Deere DPFs are durable, but usually need to be replaced during the life of the machine. After 3,000-4,000 hours in typical construction machinery, and 250,000 – 500,000 miles in semitrucks, your John Deere DPF will become too clogged with soot to regenerate. At this point you’ll need to remove and clean it. Although this may take several days, it will significantly extend the life of your DPF and engine!

If you keep operating with a clogged DPF beyond this point, the exhaust won’t be able to pass through, building pressure. If this backpressure cracks the DPF, you’ll need to replace it. A John Deere DPF can also be damaged by oil and coolant leaks, and upstream engine issues. If this happens, your machine will trigger a DTC to let you know! If your RE541179 or RE541834 DPF fails and you need a quicker fix, why not consider Roadwarrior’s replacement D2066-SA?
